Human Resource Management — Minnesota State University

The managing of human resources in the public sector has become increasingly results-driven in the past 20 years. This type of management has underpinning assumptions that are seldom analyzed—this is a deficiency that we are going to remedy in this class. As a result of more results-driven management, employees are being asked or forced to participate in quality control initiatives. To better understand this movement in the public sector, this class will also explore the Six Sigma quality control method, which is quickly becoming a standard in both private and public sectors. Public employees are the glue that holds public agencies together. Street-level bureaucrats conduct the day-to-day operations of the public agency. This class will focus on the legal and managerial aspects of human resources.
